At vervain we hold the belief that flowers are not about ticking a box on a check list but are about who you are, inspired by something meaningful to you and indicative of the atmosphere you want to create on your wedding day.
Using homegrown seasonal flowers is central to India's ethos as a florist, where possible it allows her to source the most unusual and beautiful flowers and plants. India has been surrounded by homegrown plants and flowers all her life so it seemed like a natural avenue for India to take when she started Vervain.
India grows her flowers on a working nursery with the help of glasshouses, polytunnels and outside beds. All of this enables her to grow a wide and unusual selection of flowers throughout the year. We think homegrown flowers have a unique quality with each twisted stem, bi-coloured or slightly misshapen flower adding character and interest to an arrangement, something that can only be achieved in this way.
Each year the patch has grown along with the varieties, new to the patch for 2016 is an old empty polytunnel that has been transformed into a garden full of peonies, roses and climbers. These are grown along with unusual sweet peas, chrysanthemums, dahlias, tulips and a wide range of annuals.
